Description

Onion Rossa di Milano #2061

110 days Allium cepa Unusual and rare Italian heirloom. These storage onions have bright purple/red skins and a barrel shape, with flat bottoms. Sweet and pungent. The look sensational when braided for winter use, and are highly prized by market growers. Resistant to pests and disease, with strong tops and reliable and uniform bulb development.

Certified organic  150+ seeds/pkt

Start indoors 5-6 weeks before the last frost. Sow 1/8-1/4″ deep in soil-less mix in flats and clip them as they grow so they grow no taller than 5″. Transplant when all frost is past, 3″ apart. Bunching onions are actually a perennial but most often grown as an annual in our climate. Onions require rich, well drained soil with lots of organic matter and like all members of the Allium family do not like weed pressure of any kind so they do very well in well maintained raised beds.

Cochrane Family Farm is a Certified organic family farm that follows permaculture practices to continually improve the soil. We do not use any chemical sprays or other chemical inputs and only grow hand tended heirloom varieties of vegetables, herbs, and flowers. We do not grow any vegetable or herb hybrids. Because of these practices our seeds are well adapted and vigorous.
