Description
Melon, Montreal Market Musk Melon #3346
Cucumis melo (90 Days) The Montreal Market Musk Melon was grown in Montreal at the turn of the century, thought lost, but rediscovered in the 1990’s this green fleshed beauty grows very well in Nova Scotia’s climate and does exceptionally well in our raised bed system. Sweet, spicy flavor and quite large for a melon. Melons will grow well in warm sheltered areas with rich soil. Likes consistent moisture. Start indoors, 4 weeks before last frost or from seed outside once all danger of frost has passed. Plant in raised beds or rich, loose soil that has been hilled slightly and space plants about 3 feet apart. Like other cucurbits the Montreal Market Musk Melon is susceptible to squash bugs and cucumber beetles so we row cover immediately after planting and only remove row cover once plants are getting ready to blossom.
